Five Ways to Help (Without Writing a Check)
Get to know your elected officials
Visit Congress.org and type in your zip code to find all of your elected officials. Write a letter, call or email your State Senator and State Representative. Tell them you strongly support community-based services for people with developmental disabilities and ask them to support a Cost of Living Increase in the FY 2010 budget. Feel free to remind them it's been awhile (A total of 2.5% over the past 3 years!)
Tell a friend about Envision
You are a friend of Envision. You know we support 1,500 people with developmental disabilities throughout Chicago; over 90% of whom reside in low-income households. Tell a friend about why you personally support the work we do.
Need a unique gift? Shop online at www.gumptiongifts.com —you'll find the perfect gift while directly supporting community-based employment for people with developmental disabilities.
Support Community-based Jobs for a Person with Disabilities
Nationally and locally, 75% of adults with disabilities are unemployed. Is there a job at your place of business? Ask around. People with disabilities typically thrive in high-turnover positions. Shop at businesses that employ persons with disabilities and tell them it's the reason why you shop there! Make it your personal goal to find one job for one person. Call Envision's Community Employment Services at 773-429-0203 for ideas and assistance.
Give a Gift—Grant a Smile
Feel like making a tangible, immediate difference in the life of one person…a birthday gift perhaps or just a random act of kindness? Over 90% of the people we support are economically disadvantaged or reside in low income households. Unfortunately, the limited funds that these individuals and families have go toward the purchase the most basic of necessities so the smallest gifts are appreciated greatly. Grant the gift of a smile; be a hero for someone. Call Envision at 312-506-4840 and we'll set it up!
