Envision is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency that supports persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages and abilities. We support 1,200 individuals and families throughout Chicago. All donations to Envision are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by tax law.
When did Envision form?
Envision formed in 1964 from the merger of three grassroots agencies. These three agencies were responsible for establishing Chicago’s first special education program (1950) and Chicago’s first vocational training program for adults with developmental disabilities (1961).
What is Envision’s mission?
Envision provides quality services to persons with developmental disabilities and other special needs that promote choice, independence and community integration.
Who does Envision Support?
Envision supports one of Chicago most vulnerable populations: in addition to having a primary diagnosis of mental retardation, 92% of our clientele reside in low-income households, and approximately 50% have mild to severe physical disabilities as well. 84% of our constituency represents minority ethnicities.
What Programs are offered by Envision?
Envision provides a wide array of home and center-based programs that benefit families, infants, children, adults and senior citizens. How does Envision Measure "Quality Services?"
Externally, the quality of Envision’s program is assessed by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Over a time span of 30 years, Envision has earned the highest possible accreditation from CARF in every survey conducted. The 2009 survey was our best yet. Envision was rigorously reviewed by surveyors on a total of 1140 standards. Envision received over 20 commendations for strengths and two very rare “exemplary commendations."
