11/12/2009

“Autism Services Program” to Target Growing Societal Need

To address a growing societal need, CARC will launch its innovative “Autism Services Program” on November 16, 2009.  According to the Autism Society of America, 1.5 million people in the U.S. have some form of autism--a type of developmental disability. CARC’s Autism Services Program promotes functional, age-appropriate, individualized, and diverse programming to help men and women with autism develop their communication, social and basic job skills. The program is deeply rooted in Person Centered Planning with strong emphasis on enhanced family and community involvement.

As an alternative to traditional day and employment programs, CARC's Autism Services Program provides specialized supports to individuals who are identified on the Autism Spectrum. The individualized programming is designed around the interests, strengths, and needs of program participants—providing opportunities for clients to participate in functional and meaningful activities within a highly structured environment. Through staff training, environmental and visual supports, and stimulating curriculum, clients will have the opportunity to maximize their capacity, potential and achieve personal success.

CARC's Autism Services Program provides services to individuals who have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. The age range for participants is 18 years throughout adulthood. In addition to adult programming, the program will provide transition services for students receiving special education services.
